Coverage Types

Inland Marine Insurance

Also known as: Equipment Floater

Coverage for tools, equipment, and materials while they are in transit or stored away from a fixed location.

Despite the name, inland marine has nothing to do with boats. It covers movable property, contractor tools, equipment, and materials, while in transit or staged at a jobsite, filling a gap that property policies tied to a fixed address leave open.

GCs rarely mandate inland marine from subs, but understanding it helps when a sub's equipment is damaged or stolen on your project and the question of whose coverage responds comes up.
