General Aggregate Limit

Also known as: Aggregate Limit

The total an insurer will pay for all claims combined during the policy period, separate from per-occurrence limits.

The general aggregate is the ceiling on everything the policy will pay across the entire term. A policy with a $1M per-occurrence and $2M aggregate could pay multiple claims until the combined total reaches $2M, then it is exhausted.

The risk for GCs is a shared aggregate: if a sub has burned through their aggregate on other jobs, little may be left for a claim on yours. Requiring a per-project aggregate endorsement protects against that.
